EXTRA: Abuja court remands businessman for ‘threatening to kidnap’ his landlord over house rent

A grade I area court in the Dei-dei axis of the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja has remanded Abubakar Sanusi, a 40-year-old businessman, for allegedly threatening to kidnap his landlord.

Saminu Suleiman, the judge, on Thursday, ordered that Sanusi should be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Suleja, until August 15.

According to NAN, Chinedu Ogade, the prosecutor, told the court that Chimezie Nwokeogu of Dei-dei API awe, Abuja reported the matter at the police station on July 27.

The prosecutor said the complainant, who is the defendant’s landlord, reported that Sanusi’s rent expired over one year ago but he has refused to pay or move out of the house.

He said that when the complainant requested for his rent money from the defendant, he refused to pay.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant threatened to kidnap his landlord after his refusal to pay the house rent.

Ogade said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 397 of the penal code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence while the prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open his case.
