EXTRA: Adamawa PDP demands ‘stomach infrastructure’ from Fintiri

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa has asked Ahmadu Fintiri, the state governor, to provide “stomach infrastructure” for the citizens.

The party made the demand on Friday during a stakeholders meeting with the governor in Yola, the state capital.

Stomach infrastructure is a colloquial language often used in Nigeria to refer to the provision of food and other basic needs for the potentially underserved.

But, unlike other social welfare packages, they are not sustainable and usually deployed by politicians to gain the support and loyalty of the masses mostly during elections.

Tahir Shehu, the Adamawa PDP chairman, said it is important for Fintiri to also prioritise human development as his government is nearing two years.

He commended the governor for the infrastructural development in the state, but added that he should also provide “stomach infrastructure” to complement his efforts.

“Now that the government is approaching its second year, we will plead with you, Your Excellency, to provide human development,” he said.

“Let me borrow the words of one of our party chieftains, who call it stomach infrastructure.

“If you build even a skyscraper, and if you didn’t provide human development, you would have done a lot. But the people would still need more than just that.”
