EXTRA: ‘One man one loaf’ as Akeredolu’s fan woos Ondo voters with bread

One man, one vote? It’s more of ‘one man one loaf’ in Ondo state.

From bags of rice in Ekiti, to packs of garri in Kogi, to Edo’s akara spot, stomach infrastructure seems to be on the increase, and Ondo state will not be left out of the socio-political drama.

Dele Ologun, a staunch supporter of Rotimi Akeredolu, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is plotting a new twist to the story, with “special” loaves of bread as a campaign tool.

Ologun, who distributed 400 pieces of custom-labelled bread to APC members in Akure ward 1 in Akure North Local Government Area of the state, said it was a kind gesture towards the campaign.

At the last governorship election in Ekiti, Ayo Fayose, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate at the time, said he was proud of his stomach infrastructure plans.

He promised to continue the scheme, when he becomes governor, with plans to appoint a special adviser on stomach infrastructure.

Upon assumption of office, Fayose appointed Sunday Anifowose as personal assistant on special duties and stomach infrastructure.

He later condemned the APC for adopting his programme,  which he claimed was mocked by the party.

“They abuse us for providing immediate succor for our people. They described stomach infrastructure as an insult to Ekiti people. They said it does not add value to the people; it diminishes their self-esteem, it diminishes their sense of self-worth and it denigrates what politics ought to be about,” he said in a statement.

“However, their party leader in Lagos on Sunday, adopted the same concept of stomach infrastructure by personally sharing food items to people.

“After condemning the concept, isn’t it rather too late that the APC people are just realizing that poverty should be addressed by providing immediate succor because poverty is poverty; it knows no religion and it has no tribal mark; and it affects everyone of us?”
