Abdullahi Ganduje, national chair of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi can actualise their presidential aspirations after the second term of President Bola Tinubu.

Abubakar and Obi were standard bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) respectively in the last election. They had challenged the election of Tinubu up to the supreme court.

On Thursday, the apex court dismissed their petitions and upheld Tinubu’s victory.

The year 2031 is when Tinubu is expected to complete a constitutionally permissible second term in office should he win his re-election battle in 2027.

Former vice-president Abubakar will be 85 in 2031 while Obi will be 70.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Edwin Olofu, chief press secretary to Ganduje, quoted the former Kano governor as congratulating the opposition in their fight to “the frontiers of our democracy and law”.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us, it is our responsibility as patriots to pool our resources together to move the country forward,” the APC chair said.

“I congratulate both Atiku and Obi for their dogged fight in extending the frontiers of our democracy and law.

“This is democracy. Tinubu’s victory is another victory for democratic rule in the country.

“There is still room for both Obi and Atiku to actualize their presidential aspirations after the second term tenure of President Tinubu in 2031.”

Ganduje said Nigerians should support Tinubu to deliver the “dividends of democracy”.
