A chief magistrates’ court in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, on Friday, sentenced one Kabiru Lawal to three months imprisonment for stealing goats and a ram.
Lawal, 35, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and conversion.
Lawrence Olu-Balogun, the prosecutor, told the court that Lawal committed the offences in June 2023.
Olu-Balogun said the defendant “fraudulently” obtained eight goats and one ram, valued at N300,000, from one Ibrahim Akanbi, under the pretence of helping him sell the animals.

“The complainant gave the defendant eight goats and a ram to help him sell them, but the defendant sold all of them and converted the money to his personal use,” Olu-Balogun told the court.
“After committing the crime, he ran out of Ogun state without remitting the money to the complainant, but was later caught.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of section 419(b) and 390(3) of the criminal code of Ogun.

V.B William, the presiding judge, subsequently sentenced Lawal to three months each for the first and second counts.
