EXTRA: ‘Dey your dey’ — live band spices up Fubara’s speech amid rift with Wike

Nyesom Wike may no longer be the governor of Rivers, but his peculiar inventions appear to be enduring in the state.

One such antecedent is the trend of having a live band accompany him — and sometimes serve as backup — to public functions.

Although Wike, now FCT minister, is at loggerheads with Siminalayi Fubara, his successor, the latter has not completely parted ways ‘with the ways’ of his predecessor.

During the flag-off of a 20,000 housing units project for low-income earners in Ikwere LGA of Rivers on Friday, a live band belted out a song to cap off Fubara’s speech.

Dey your day make I dey my dey, nobody worry nobody”, the band sang to the delight of the crowd.

While serving as governor of the state, Wike’s live band became a popular side attraction at public events, often singing the trademark tune: “As e dey pain them, e dey sweet us.”

It remains to be seen if Fubara will also have the live band belting out tunes with subliminal messages at every event he attends.

RIVERS POLITICAL CRISIS

Despite the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, the political crisis in Rivers rages on.

The feud between Wike and Fubara recently snowballed into the resignation of nine commissioners.

The resignation came after 27 lawmakers, who were said to be loyal to Wike, had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The seats of the lawmakers were subsequently declared vacant, with the PDP asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections.

Earlier in the week, the state government commenced demolition of the house of assembly complex, citing cracks on the building walls from the October fire incident.

On the day of the demolition, Fubara posted a birthday message addressed to Wike on Twitter, wishing him “joy and good health”.
