Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo, says the state was in the “cemetery” before he assumed office in 2020.
In January 2020, Uzodinma was sworn in as governor of Imo after the supreme court sacked Emeka Ihedioha as the chief executive officer of the state.
The Imo governor is currently seeking a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Imo governorship election has been scheduled to hold on November 11, 2023.

Speaking on his achievements during an interview on Channels Television, Uzodinma said he deserves a second term in office because his administration repositioned the state.
The Imo governor said his administration has been able to bridge the infrastructural deficit in the state.
“Given the situation in Imo state before 2020 when I became the governor and the situation of Imo state today, three years after, a lot of things are there for people to know that there is a huge difference,” he said.

“When I came to Imo state, I met a moribund state, a state that was in distress. A state, I can even say, that was in the cemetery, I exhumed the body.
“Can you imagine a state where I came as the governor and everybody absconded? No handover note. There was no compass for me to navigate the aircraft.
“I started harvesting information from official and unofficial quarters. I was able to establish a nominal role.
“I was able to re-establish the civil service, maintain the payroll and begin to rehabilitate all the dilapidated infrastructure.”
