The Kano Hisbah Board says its operatives have arrested a couple for holding their marriage ceremony at a restaurant without parental consent.
Mujahideen Abubakar, the board’s deputy commander general of operations, confirmed the arrest to TheCable on Thursday.
Abubakar said Hisbah personnel raided the restaurant on Wednesday after receiving an intelligence tip-off.
“The bride and groom are in our custody. We are also working to reach the witnesses to broaden our investigation,“ he said.

“It is very unfortunate that the purported marriage was conducted in a restaurant by friends of the groom without the parents’ approval.”
Abubakar added that the board would take action against individuals undermining Islamic law in the state.
He also revealed that a manhunt had been launched for guests who attended the ceremony, noting that many fled the venue when Hisbah operatives arrived.

“We arrested the couple and are currently tracking the groom’s friends who escaped when our personnel stormed the restaurant,“ he said.
According to him, the couple violated key marriage conditions, which constitutes a breach of Shari’ah law.
The Kano Hisbah Board is responsible for enforcing moral regulations under Islamic law in the state.
The agency is known for various activities, including the destruction of alcoholic beverages, the arrest of unmarried men and women found together in hotels, and the ban on the use of mannequins in boutiques.
