EXTRA: Leaking roof, power failure disrupt court hearing in Abuja — and judge resorts to flashlight

As the FCT high court presided over by Angela Otaluka began proceedings on Tuesday morning, an unsightly phenomenon occurred — the roof of the courtroom dripped as the rain poured.

The leakage caused discomfort for those seated close to the window.

In no time, the floor beneath the leaking roof was swamped by rain water.

The leaking roof was surprisingly, not the only problem. A few minutes after the downpour began, power was interrupted.

But there was no power generating set to break the darkness.

As darkness covered the room, the judge reached for her flashlight to help illuminate the place.

The flashlight was in for the rescue.

However, the proceedings could not continue as the microphone did not respond to the mutters of the judge — owing to the power failure. After realising the futility of her efforts, the judge stood up and retired to her chambers to wait out the rain.
