Shehu Sani, a former senator, says Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Ahmad Lawan would not have pulled off fleeing from protesters like their Kenyan counterparts.

Lawan represents Yobe north in the senate.

Sani said this in a post on X on Wednesday, after reports emerged that members of Kenya’s parliament took to their heels as protesters besieged the senate building on Tuesday.

The former lawmaker said he knows that Bukola Saraki, a former president of the senate, is fit enough to take to his heels.

He added that Dino Melaye, a former senator who represented Kogi west, “can jump and climb trees”.

“When I watched the Kenyan senators running, I know that Saraki is physically fit to run but I’m not sure of Senators Lawan and Akpabio,” he said.

“Dino can jump and climb trees but Ben Bruce can only do catwalk.”

Protests engulfed Kenya for “seven days of rage” following the government’s controversial finance bill that would have hiked taxes across board.

On Tuesday, the protests assumed a violent dimension after police fired live rounds and tear gas at irate youths who in turn breached the parliament building.

Lawmakers who were at the parliament building reportedly escaped through an underground tunnel, while others hid in the building’s basement.

President William Ruto of Kenya has withdrawn the tax bill in deference to the protesters after it was passed by parliament.
