EXTRA: Police arrest three for ‘killing man who stole bread’ in Bayelsa

The Police command in Bayelsa has arrested three suspects for allegedly participating in the lynching of one Ebimotimi Freeborn, who was accused of stealing bread.

Asinim Butswat, the command’s spokesperson, said the 32-year-old man was lynched on July 9.

The suspects, Preye Mathew (50yrs), Theophilus Tiro (28yrs) and Famous Precious (22yrs), have been fingered as the masterminds of the incident.

Butswat said that the three suspects were arrested on July 9, at about 5 pm at Tombia- Amassoma road.

He condemned the mob action, warning members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands.

Butswat said that the suspects were undergoing interrogation and would be charged in court at the conclusion of the investigation.

In April, the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the appointment of new commissioners of police (CPs) for 11 states, including Bayelsa.

Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for PSC, announced Romokere Ibiani as the new commissioner of police for the state, adding that the new posting was a call for greater commitment, innovation, and loyalty to the Nigerian nation
