Less than 24 hours after he made headlines for a controversial statement, Monday Okpebholo is back in the news again — for a not-so-good reason.

During his campaign rally at Ovia-north LGA on Thursday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Edo governorship election goofed while addressing the crowd.

A video shared on Facebook showed that Okpebholo made the mistake after Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo north, raised concerns about the security situation of the state.

“This land is blessed with huge arable land, but our farmers cannot go to the farm because of insecurity,” Oshiomhole said.

Reacting to issues raised by Oshiomhole and other speakers on the podium, Okpebholo said his administration will “transform” Edo state if he wins the September 21 governorship election.

“We’re going to provide you with insecurity,” Okpebholo said in video clips now making the round on social media.

Oshiomhole, who was standing beside Okpebholo on the podium, was seen signalling to him, after which the candidate corrected himself.

“We are going to provide you with security; we are going to fight insecurity,” the candidate then said.

“We’re going to make sure that the evil ones are out of our land. This land does not belong to kidnappers.”

On Friday, video clips of Okpebholo saying he would repair interstate roads and claim double the amount from the federal government if elected surfaced online.

The governorship election is scheduled for September 21, and Okpebholo is up against Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) and 14 other candidates.
