Evelyn Anite, Uganda‘s former state minister for investment and privatisation, has justified withdrawing an ambulance she donated to a community after losing an election.
In 2021, Anite contested for a parliamentary seat under the Koboko municipality in the country.
As part of her campaign, the 38-year-old donated an ambulance to the municipal’s health department to facilitate the transportation of mothers to referral hospitals and health centres.
This was done to reduce maternal mortality, deliveries at homes and to fight against fistula in the municipality.

Anite also promised to pay the driver up to six months.
However, after failing to win the primary election, Anite withdrew the ambulance she donated.
Addressing the development in a post on her X account on Tuesday evening, the politician said she did not regret her action, saying it was a consequence of the residents’ choices.

“You reap what you sow,” she said, referencing a Bible verse.
“Thank you for bringing this up. First, it’s true I took back my ambulance & I have no apologies for that,” she added.
@AfricaFactsZone, Thank you for bringing this up. First, it’s true I took back my ambulance & I have no apologies for that. Why did I do it? It’s because they didn’t vote for me. So did you expect me to walkaway with nothing? Galatians 6:7 A man reaps what he sows. https://t.co/H9JKc94fC6

“Why did I do it? It’s because they didn’t vote for me. So did you expect me to walk away with nothing? Galatians 6:7 A man reaps what he sows.”
In a response to an X user who said the information was fake, Anite said: “My dear, I actually did it, and I am very proud of my action. Once they said go away, I packed all my belongings and left them. now I hear people crying as if I was the first one to call it quits. The Bible says the wage of sin is death”.
Prior to the election, Anite had predicted a sail-through after declaring that she didn’t view the contest as a tough race.
