FACT CHECK: Viral post of Lagos civil service recruitment is false

A job recruitment advert alleged to be from the Lagos state civil service commission has been circulating on social media.

The publication shared on several platforms — websites, Facebook and WhatsApp — is titled: “Lagos State Civil Service Recruitment Y2021- 2022 Application Form is out”.

In one of such publications shared on a blog, it was stated that the Lagos state government “is back again with the announcement of recruitment of reputable staffs into different Cadre of their commission”.

The report highlights 20 available positions to be applied for by job seekers, ranging from level seven to nine.

Vacancies for geologist, civil engineer, environmental health officer, statistician, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, scientific officer, produce officer, architect, are among the openings said to be available.

Four technical officers, one each for civil, electrical, mechanical, and town planning are also part of the available positions, according to the publication.

It went further to state that every person applying must not be older than 30 years, saying that is the maximum age all the candidates applying for the job must be at the time of application.

It also noted that applicants must have “completed their mandatory one year of NYSC or perhaps have their exemption letters handy or risk losing out on the job”.

The publication which embedded a different portal link also reads: “Be careful not to follow the wrong recruitment link as there are numerous scam links floating the internet here and there.”

HOW TRUE IS THIS PUBLICATION?

Checks by TheCable showed that the job recruitment advert is fake.

This is confirmed in a statement released by the Lagos state civil service commission which noted that the report is “totally untrue and fabricated”.

The commission said “the publication and the purported recruitment is false in its entirety and intended to mislead the members of the general public”.

It maintained that the state government has its approved media channels for such information and will continue to use the same for all public communications.

The commission warned the public to be wary of fake job adverts, saying the purported 2021-2022 Lagos state government recruitment exercise report “is the handwork of dubious minded individuals who are out to defraud innocent citizens”.
