FAKE NEWS ALERT: Ndidi Nwuneli isn’t contesting in Anambra governorship election

Ndidi Nwuneli, founder of LEAP Africa, has refuted claims that she is contesting for the deputy governorship seat in the forthcoming Anambra election.

A report by an online blog claims that Nwuneli is one of those “leading the pack of those tipped for the party’s number two seat in the state”.

The report noted that the entrepreneur is seeking to become the running mate of Akachukwu Nwankpo, who emerged as governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on June 30.

“Our reporter observed that one name that keeps popping up in the list is that of a leadership development mentor and member of Rockefeller Foundation Board of Trustees, Mrs Nwuneli,” the report reads.

When contacted, Nwuneli, managing partner of Sahel Consulting Agriculture & Nutrition Ltd., told TheCable that the information is “completely false”.

The Harvard Business School African-American alumnus said she has no political interests.

She noted that her efforts will be focused contributing to Nigeria’s transformation in the areas of agriculture and innovation.

“This is completely false. I have no political interests and will continue to contribute towards transforming Nigeria in the agriculture and food and social innovation landscapes,” she said.

“I pray for free and fair elections for the good people of Anambra state.”

In 2020, Nwuneli and her husband, Mezuo, became the first couple to deliver the keynote address on Harvard Business School (HBS) class day.

In 2011, she emerged as one of Forbes’ 20 youngest powerful women in Africa.
