Falana urges Buhari to sack Buratai over $1.5m Dubai property

President Muhammadu Buhari should terminate the appointment of Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant-general and chief of army staff, if he voluntarily fails to resign, Femi Falana has said.

The human rights lawyer and senior advocate of Nigeria said this in reaction to the report that Buratai purchased property worth $1.5m in Dubai.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Falana described the defence mustered for Buratai by the Nigerian army as a “cock and bull story”.

Falana inferred that it was highly unlikely that Buratai would acquire the property with his personal savings.

“In view of the ban on the opening and operation of foreign accounts by public officers, the Code of Conduct Bureau should be involved in the investigation.

“If the Chief of Army Staff does not deem it fit to resign forthwith, President Buhari should not hesitate to remove him in the interest of national morality.”

Falana further said that Buratai has to step down if indeed there would be no sacred cow in the fight against corruption, as promised by the Buhari administration.

  1. In the same Interest of National Morality, Falana would have urged his client to present his WAEC certificate instead of hiring him and 12 other SANs to represent him or seeking other means to truncate the case. So which morality is he now talking about?
