The Japanese U-20 women national team defeated Nigeria in the opening game of the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
The Falconets, runners-up at the last edition of the championship in Canada, failed to live up to the expectation of Nigerians, who wanted them to go one step further than the final placing in 2014.
Yuka Momiki gave Japan the lead in the 34th minute of the game. Barely three minutes after Momiki’s goal, Mami Ueno doubled the lead for Japan.
In the 50th minute, Momiki got on the score sheet for the second time to extend Japan lead by 3-0.
