Falcons maul Kenya to seal semifinal ticket

The defending champions of the African Women Cup of Nations, the Super Falcons, on Saturday defeated Kenya 4-0 to qualify for the semifinal of the ongoing competition in Cameroon.

It was two quick-fire goals in the first 10 minutes of the game from Ngozi Okobi and Faith Ikidi, followed by second-half goals from competition top scorer Asisat Oshoala and a debut goal by Desire Oparanoziein the 54th and 89th minutes of the game respectively.

With the victory, the Falcons sealed top position in Group B with Ghana placing second after recording a 3-1 victory over Mali.

Nigeria face South Africa, who finished second in Group A, while Ghana square up against hosts Cameroon.

To get to the semifinal, Nigeria defeated Mali 6-0 and played 1-1 against arch rivals Ghana in their second match.

Kenya failed to pose much threat as they were eliminated from their debut competition with three loses.

Ghana beat them 3-1 in their first match, while Mali inflicted the same scoreline on them in their second match.
