Families of slain, missing policemen get N500,000 gift

Suleiman Abba, the inspector-general of police, (IGP) on Tuesday donated the sum of N500, 000 to families of deceased and missing officers.

According to Emmanuel Ojukwu, police spokesman, the donation was part of efforts to ease the pain of the families.

He said N200, 000 was from the police reward fund; N200,000 from the Nigeria police welfare insurance and N100,000 from the office of the inspector-general of police.

“In line with the resolve by the Nigeria police force to see to the welfare of all its personnel, the inspector-general of police, Suleiman Abba, on December 30, 2014 visited the families of deceased and missing police officers in the line of duty. The meeting was held at No 38 Police Mobile Force (38 PMF) Squadron, Akwanga, Nasarawa state where the families assembled,” he said.

“While speaking, he said the Nigeria police force is concerned about the welfare of all its personnel, as has been demonstrated in many ways since his assumption of duty. He further stated that he regrets the loss of any officer in line of duty, which the force does everything humanly possible to prevent, adding that he is greatly disturbed about the fate of the missing officers and feels the hurt of the families.”

Abba also assured the families of the missing police officers that efforts were being made to trace and rescue officers.
