Family of 13 burnt alive as ‘bandits’ break into Kaduna village

Over 20 people, including a family of 13, were reportedly killed by suspected bandits in an attack on Bakali village, Fika district of Giwa local government area of Kaduna state.

According to a resident of the community who spoke with TheCable, the incident took place around 6pm on Tuesday.

The resident, who did not want to be named, said local guards and hunters in the village had mobilised to launch an attack on the gunmen in their hideout but they were attacked on the way.

The gunmen were said to have killed some of the vigilante members and pursued others to the village.

The source said the suspected bandits started shooting at people and burning houses immediately they entered the village.

The bandits reportedly locked 13 members of a family in a room and set fire to the house.

When contacted, Muhammad Jalige, spokesman of the state police command, said he was yet to receive any information about the incident.

He, however, promised to make his findings and get back to TheCable.

About three weeks ago, suspected bandits attacked the convoy of Umaru Bubaram, emir of Potiskum in Yobe state, killing six persons, including four of his aides.

The incident took place around Fandatio village, near Maraban Jos along the Kaduna-Zaria high way.

The emir was on his way to Zaria in Kaduna when the gunmen opened fire on his convoy.

Also in January, four personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, were killed by suspected bandits in Kaduna.

The bandits were said to have laid an ambush for the security operatives at Unguwan Yako, close, along Kaduna- Birnin Gwari road.
