Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, says southerners who ridicule the north over their experiences on insecurity are ignorant and shortsighted.
Fani-Kayode said this in a post via his Twitter handle on Sunday.
He also warned that if the south does not help the north to solve the problems of insecurity, the region would soon be affected as well.
“Southerners that mock the north & laugh at the travails they are going through in the hands of terrorists are ignorant & shortsighted. The fire that is burning down your neighbour’s house will end up burning yours as well if you do not help him to put it out. Stop gloating!” the former minister wrote.

His comment comes after a series of attacks in various states in the north by bandits and insurgents, with schoolchildren targeted in recent incidents.
On Friday, gunmen had attacked Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara local government area of Zamfara, and abducted 317 students.
The girls are currently still being held captive.
Two weeks before the Jangebe attack, students, staff members and their relatives were kidnapped from Government Science College, Kagara, Niger state. They were, however, released on Saturday.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 children have been victims of school abductions in the north over the past seven years.
