PLENARY ON A SUNDAY
Following widespread protests in the country after the federal government removed fuel subsidy in January 2012, the house cut short its vacation to convene an emergency session on a Sunday.
In a majority voice vote, the house opposed President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the nation was not prepared for full deregulation of the downstream sector of the oil industry. It consequently urged the federal government to revert to the N65 per litre pump price.
Tambuwal, who presided over the session, attended by 294 of the 360 members, said the intervention was the best the legislators could do to douse tension in the land.
