Father of Afaka student dies two weeks after daughter’s kidnap

Ibrahim Shamaki, the father of one of the students abducted by bandits in Afaka, Kaduna state, is dead.

TheCable gathered that Shamaki, whose daughter was among those kidnapped from Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, died on Friday evening.

A family source who confirmed his death said he has been ill since the daughter identified as Fatima Ibrahim was abducted.

He was being treated in Maradi, a border town in Niger Republic where he was taken to following his deteriorating health condition.

TheCable had reported how Ibrahim and 38 other students were abducted by bandits who attacked the school on March 12.

Although the state and the federal government had promised to rescue them, not much has been heard regarding where they are being kept.

On Monday, their parents took to the streets to protest their captivity.

They have also asked Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna to dialogue with the bandits.

The governor had said he will not engage with the criminals as such action is the duty of private citizens such as clerics.
