Father seeks court order to eject children from his house

A 65-year-old man, Idowu Oni, on Monday approached an Ikole customary court in Ekiti, praying the court to eject his two biological children from his house.

Oni sought the order on the grounds that the two children, namely Tayo, 30, and Lere, 28, were provoking him due to their bad characters in the community.

According to him, Tayo, a female, has four children for different men. He claimed that the men, who have not been taking care of the children, impregnated her in the house.

“It is shameful to watch my daughter get pregnant and deliver four different times for unknown men right under my tutelage,” he said.

He also told the court that his second child, Lere, was “a habitual trouble maker”, who had about three or four cases pending in the police station and magistrates’ court.

The plaintiff, a night guard, said he could no longer cope with the embarrassment and shame that the bad behaviour of the two children was causing him.

“Apart from the shame, I have to also contend with money spent on pending cases,” he said.

The two children, who were in court, could not deny the allegations or say anything in their defence.

Yemisi Ojo, president of the court, said the matter was domestic, which ought to have been settled by family members.

She, therefore, directed the two children to meet responsible elderly members in their family and arrange a meeting where they would beg the plaintiff.

She also advised the children to turn new leaf and do what would make their father happy instead of causing trouble and engaging in activities “that make the old man sad”.

The court adjourned hearing of the report of settlement till June 6.
