Fayemi: My visit to Tinubu in London not about 2023 election — he just had surgery

Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, says his recent visit to London to see Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was not connected to the 2023 presidential election.

Fayemi said this on Sunday, during an interview with Arise TV.

In recent weeks, many prominent Nigerians, including President Muhammadu Buhari, have visited Tinubu, who is currently in London.

Speaking on the development, Fayemi said Tinubu had surgery, adding that the visit was a show of solidarity.

“He (referring to Rotimi Akeredolu) and I were in London together to see our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It had absolutely nothing to do with 2023 presidential plans whatsoever,” Fayemi said.

“That is not the reason why we went there. Asiwaju had just had surgery; it is simply proper etiquette, behaviour, both in the part of the country where I come from and also generally.

“When a friend, an elder, is undergoing health challenges, it would be improper on your part not to show solidarity and support, and that is simply what took us there.

“We wanted to associate ourselves with him at a time of need, and as an elder, as a mentor, as a big figure in our political party.

“Nothing wrong in also paying a courtesy visit to check on him and see how he was faring and we needed that and we returned. It had nothing to do with 2023; let me make that absolutely clear.”
