Buhari has health problems, Fayose alleges

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has health problems and may soon return Nigeria to the Yar’Adau scenario if he becomes president.

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adau collapsed during his campaign in 2011 and fell terminally ill two years after being sworn in.

In a statement he issued on Thursday, Fayose said: “In the north, there are so many qualified, brilliant and credible people who can rule the country well.

“Why is Obasanjo going after an old horse that may collapse mid-way? Nigerians should know the state of health of Buhari. His age and health cannot stand the rigours of the office. Nigerians deserve to know the health status of Buhari.”

He accused ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo of attempting to plunge the country into crisis.

Fayose, who does not miss any opportunity to throw missiles at the former president, alleged that Obasanjo was routing for Buhari in next month’s presidential election, despite once claiming that without Goodluck Jonathan, there would be no Nigeria.

During Jonathan’s re-election campaign in Ekiti on Wednesday, stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had to publicly appeal to the governor to stop lampooning Obasanjo, with whom they held a long meeting before journeying to Ekiti.

Fayose fell out with Obasanjo during his first term in office, accusing the former number-one citizen in the country of masterminding his impeachment in 2006.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the governor accused Obasanjo of going against Jonathan “because the president refused to be pocketed by him”.

“Nigerians should be wary of Obasanjo’s banana peel. He was the one who put forward Umar Yar ‘Adua as the president knowing the man’s state of health and the man died in office,” he said.

“He was the one who said President Goodluck Jonathan was the best for Nigeria and that without him there would be no Nigeria.

“The question people should ask former President Obasanjo is what has gone wrong between now and then? He is against President Jonathan because the president refused to be pocketed by him.

“Obasanjo is now presenting General Muhammadu Buhari as the best candidate for Nigeria knowing the man’s age and that the pressure of office would be too much for him.”

Fayose said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not the most suitable candidate for the office of the president.

  1. Taiwo Danjuma, Buhari and APC chairman have told us that there eill be no probe of past leaders or corrupt politicians. However, I perceived that Tinubu is very much aware of Buhari’s health problems and that was why he wanted to be the VP to Buhari so that when Buhari becomes incapacitated, he automatically becomes the president through the constitution, but muslem/muslem ticket was his major undoing. Buhari’s health needs to be looked into if we do not want northerners to lament again.

  2. Even if the man is on wheel chair, we will vote for him. Afterall, Yar’adua with no kidney gave Nigeria better leadership than this Jona Just Come who has neither balls nor liver. You cannot expect a 72 year old man not to be suffering from something. But his wisdom and leadership is what we need. A 40% healthy Buhari is better than 1000 Jona.

    1. So u’ll rather he died trying to rule Nigeria just to buttress how Jona is bad? I’m sure you were one of those who initially found Jonathan perfect. + Check history and you’ll know who’s better.

    2. I agree in Toto with Odolaye. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 32nd American president contracted poliomyelitis in 1922 shortly after his election. He ruled America from his wheelchair, was elected for four (4) terms and he prosecuted the second world war successfully. He also saw America through one of the greatest post war economic depression of all time. His strength? Apart from being brilliant himself, he surrounded himself with the best brains America had to offer, even within the military.

Buhari has been adjudged to be fit intellectually and in terms of integrity; to me that is all that matters. Who needs a healthy but sloppy leader anyway?

  3. You are alone on this. Buhari will be rejected again……. a record 4th. Buhari’s resume of dictatorship is an albatross. I care less about his age. But we abhor dictatorships. We had dictatorships for 40+ years and inherited a total mess. Buhari is the personification of dictatorships.

  4. So most of the proposition ponder by people; warranted me to accept God Lustrous wonders since Nigeria creation and truly think [as an individual] Buhari is just a stooge being use for an AGENDA. I am still seeing our Nigeria faith on track with Jonathan this 2015. So my dreams are, we all citizens of Nigeria need ourselves with people like Jonathan or Kwankwanso to be president. Let me repeat and add to my observations, “Buhari is being caged” by former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ex-vice-president, Atiku Abubakar

  5. if all the individuals commenting against GEJ in this forum are blind to the tremendous and wonderful works of Jona,it therefore means that a lot of Nigerians have refused to grow and embrace change.I can only see the dirty works of APC.

    1. And you mr seer why not simply list the tremendous and wonderful works of Jonah because it appears only the blind can see them . You’re such a dishonest, unrealistic and sold out sycophant!

  6. Hmmm….. i smell another doom for Nigeria then. I am from the north and i think it’s high time we have a re-think and forget about all these nonsense. If Buhari is SICK, then i think we all deserve to know NOW, so that we are not all fooled to it again. Fayose might just be throwing a good light at something we all need to look at carefully.

  7. Lies and deceit at it’s greatest helm. My expectation was for Fayose to first have answered those pertinent questions OBJ asked his boss. It is obvious he is afraid of what may happen to a governor liked him if Buhari wins. We have a president of another country that was voted to lead his country 88, so how is our’s a problem at 72. How old was Mandela when he became the president that changed he course of history for South Africans? No amount of blackmail or slander by agents of curruption riden sychopants can deter the needed change Nigerians desire at this precious but right time. Why cant he speak up on what the health problem is if he claim to know. Nigerians be wise and support Buhari. This is a chance we must never miss to block all leaking holes to private pockets from our national treasury or we will be doomed from continous huge missing and unaccounted funds as serious economic crisis now becomes undoubtedly unavoidable.

  8. Fayose is right and at this point in time we don’t need a sick president. Fashola did mention something about old age yesterday.

  9. How many answers did Obasanjo provided for his failed third term bid, or for sponsoring Yar’dua against Atiku, a most competent and able body person.
What answer did Obasanjo provided for Odi or for ICPC and EFCC that went after his enemies only.
What answers did Obasanjo provided for the high profile political murders during his regime. His kinsman and Minister of Justice was murdered, Harry Marshal was murdered, Dikibo was murdered , what was Obasanjo’s efforts in bringing justice to these families.
Obasanjo has more answers to give than Jonathan, terrorism is not a war around one single territory, it is a global thing and many Nations are passing through the same phase and fate now.

  10. We should all expect that, because at his age he should be having health challenges. Buhari should chill and rest.

  11. I remain ashamed of the pedigree of leadership this generation has churned out in Nigeria.By their utterances you’ll know them: Imagine a schooled leader saying there would be no Nigeria without anybody as if that person was a god! On the contrary, Nigeria would have fared better without any of the rulers it’s been unfortunate to host thus far. On Fayose’s part common sense would have instructed him remain silence and support an ill Buhari after all his fellow kinsman stands to benefit from Buhari’s possible demise but then like a typical Nigerian leader, he must betray his nigerianess.

  12. I totally disagreed with your emphasis that a northerner that we must accept your view. you can’t differentiate a pure political statement with truth? why didnt u accept general olukolade’s pronun cement that chibok girls were rescued because u are a northerner?
