Fayose’s spokesman: Blame Fayemi, Akeredolu for Ekiti shooting

Lere Olayinka, spokesman of governor Ayodele Fayose, says Kayode Fayemi, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, and governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo are to blame for the shooting incident in Ekiti.

At the APC secretariat on Friday, a policeman shot sporadically during a reception to kick off Fayemi’s campaign.

Bamidele, a former member of the house of representatives member, and another party member were shot.

The APC in the state had accused Fayose’s government of being responsible for the attack which it claims was targeted at Fayemi.

Reacting to the incident, Fayose’s spokesman said Fayemi and Akeredolu invaded the state with policemen and thugs.

“The governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi invaded Ekiti state with armed policemen and thugs, throwing the state that has been peaceful since the advent of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s government into bloodshed,” the statement read.

“Akeredolu led the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to Ekiti in a show of federal might and in the process, seven people were hit by police bullets.

“At the APC secretariat, one of the mobile policemen was said to  be using his gun to push away the thugs brought from Ondo state and the hoodlums in turn dragged the gun with him, leading to sporadic shootings that left six persons shot.”

The Ekiti police command had told TheCable that a politician conspired with the policeman who was in Ekiti on illegal duty.

The police confirmed the arrest of both men but refused to disclose the identity of the politician.

“We make bold to say that Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State and Dr Fayemi must be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Ekiti state,” Olayinka added.
