FCT, Lagos top list as NCDC confirms 43 new COVID cases

Nigeria’s daily count of COVID-19 cases stayed on the low side on Saturday — with 43 new infections confirmed in six states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new positive samples in its update for May 1, 2021.

According to the breakdown, Lagos recorded the most infections with 28 new cases, followed by FCT and Rivers, with four infections each.

Other states that reported fresh infections are: Ekiti (2), Kaduna (2), Ogun (2), and Bauchi (1).

The NCDC also confirmed that eight patients were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the infection, increasing the country’s total number of recoveries to 155,109.

However, no new death was recorded on Saturday, leaving the coronavirus death toll at 2,063.

Lagos currently accounts for the highest figure of fatalities with 439 deaths, followed by Edo with 185, and FCT with 166.

Out of 165,153 coronavirus infections that have been confirmed in Nigeria, there are currently 7,981 active cases being managed across states.
