FCT: Two isolation wards ready in case of coronavirus outbreak

The federal capital territory administration (FCTA) says there is no case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the nation’s capital.

Writing via its Twitter handle on Friday, the FCTA said two isolation centres have been provided in case of any outbreak.

It said the two wards are at the National Hospital, Central Business District, and the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada.

It wrote: “UPDATE: The FCTA under the leadership of Hon. Minister, Mal. Mohammed Bello has dedicated two isolation wards at the National Hospital & the UniABUJA Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada in case of any #COVID19 outbreak in the FCT.

“NOTE: There is no confirmed case of #COVID19 in the FCT.”

Nigeria has 12 cases of the coronavirus as of Saturday morning — with 11 in Lagos state and one in Ekiti.

To curb the spread of the virus, the federal government banned travellers — with the exception of Nigerians — from 15 countries that have recorded more than 1,000 cases of the disease.

Most schools across the country, including the FCT have also been shut down indefinitely.
