The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has arrested some persons for violating the lockdown order by jogging along the road.

Anjuguri Menzah, police public relations officer of the FCT command, announced this in an interview with NTA.

He said by carrying out exercises on the road, those involved did not observe social distancing and they exposed the lives of others to danger “and also frustrated the effort of the government to contain the spread of the virus.”

One of the arrested persons who spoke under anonymity said he was not aware that exercising on the road contravened the lockdown directive.

“At no point was I aware that there was a restriction for people to jog around. Now that we have found out without proper sensitization, we have been arrested.” he said.

Another woman said: “I observed social distancing because I went out to jog alone and I wasn’t in any cluster.”

The FCTA had on Wednesday announced that it had set up mobile courts to try violators of the lockdown order.
