FEC approves N2.6bn for FRSC operational vehicles, N5bn for NECO materials

The federal executive council (FEC) has approved N2.6 billion for the procurement of operational vehicles for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). 

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, announced the development on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after the FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adesina said the contracts for the supply of the vehicles were awarded to Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited and Messrs Mikano International Limited.

“FRSC got approval to buy operational vehicles. One was given to Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited and then the second one was for a re-procurement of saloon cars in favour of Messers Mikano International Limited. Everything came to N2,578,948,164.36 only,” he said.

“Please note that the contracts were secured by locally based automobiles. Dangote Peugeot is to supply within 30 days, while Mikano International is to supply within 14 days.

“For Dangote Peugeot, it is to supply 18 Landtrek pickups at N18,172,875.00, and another 90 number at N20,889,999 each totalling N1,880,099,910.00.

“And then for Mikano, it is to supply 20 number Nissan Almera Acenta at the cost of N12,255,000.00 each.”

Also, Adamu Adamu, minister of education, said the council approved N5.1 billion for the National Examinations Council (NECO) to print sensitive and necessary materials.

He also said the council approved contracts for the supply of 18 ambulances fitted with medical equipment for unity schools, while N3.3 billion was approved for perimeter fencing of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.
