FEC approves N203bn for six infrastructure projects in FCT

The federal executive council (FEC) has approved contracts worth over N203 billion for six infrastructure projects in the federal capital territory (FCT).

Announcing the approvals after the council meeting at the presidential villa on Tuesday, Mariya Bunkure, minister of state for the FCT, said the projects are aimed at improving road networks, erosion control, and water supply in the nation’s capital city.

According to the minister, the contracts cover the construction of new roads, the rehabilitation of major streets, and upgrades to water treatment infrastructure.

She noted that the construction of an access road to the FCT Fire Service Institution and erosion control works in Kaura District are among the approved projects.

Bunkure said the contract, awarded to Infu Ernest International Ltd, is valued at N13.18 billion and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

The minister said the cost of engineering works in Guzape District (Lot 1) was also revised from N22.2 billion to N70.89 billion.

Bunkure explained that the adjustment was necessary to complete outstanding infrastructure in the area, with an additional completion period of 18 months.

Another major project is the construction of a 7-kilometre access road and a full-span bridge linking Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki, bypassing the airport’s second railway.

The minister said the contract, awarded to CCECC, is valued at N27.6 billion and is scheduled for completion within 12 months.

According to her, several major streets in the FCT will also undergo rehabilitation, including Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Thomas Sankara road, JFK Street, Ibrahim Taiwo street, Muhammadu Ribadu street, and Shehu Shagari way.

Bunkure said the contract for the road repairs was awarded to Julius Berger for N20.4 billion, with an expected completion time of eight months.

She noted that in Guzape, additional finishing works for outstanding layouts in Lots 1 and 2 were awarded to Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company for N54.38 billion.

Bunkure also announced that the council approved the rehabilitation of phases 1, 3, and 4 of the Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant.

She said that SCC Nigeria Ltd will handle the project for N17.2 billion and $79,000, with completion set for 12 months.

According to the minister, these projects align with the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the FCT, ensuring better road connectivity and enhanced water supply for residents.
