Female bomber kills 5 in Gombe

Less than a week after a successful election in Nigeria, no fewer than five people have been killed and 15 others injured in a bomb explosion at a motor park in Gombe.

According to a witness, the explosion happened in late on Thursday, reducing the pace of celebration in the city, which had just experience a relatively peaceful election few days earlier.

“We had an explosion outside the motor park this evening around 8:30 pm which killed five people and injured 15 others,” said Muhammad Garkuwa, an official of the drivers union.

“The explosion was from an explosive left by a woman in her handbag beside a bus waiting to convey passengers to Jos.

“No-one suspected her. People around assumed she was making calls before the bus filled up, as she was talking in the phone she moved away from the bus towards a row of kiosks, as if she wanted to buy something, leaving her bag where she was standing”.

A security source on ground confirmed the attack to TheCable, though could not confirm accurate casualty.

On Saturday, Boko Haram struck at polling units in Dukku and Nafada local government area of Gombe state, killing eight people, including Umar Aminu, a member of the state house of assembly.
