FG registers 3m poor, vulnerable people on national social register

The federal government says it has registered a total of 3,031,065 individuals and 755, 112 households in the ongoing national social register being handled by the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO).

NAN reports that the report would provide a gateway for people to register and be considered for potential inclusion in social programs.

In 2017, the federal government had said it would register about five million Nigerians in the national social register for the poor and vulnerable households.

According to the 2019 report which was signed by Apera Iorwa, the NASSCO national coordinator NASSCO, registration has been carried out in 26 states and Abuja, the federal capital territory.

The states are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, FCT, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and Zamfara.

Of all the three million people registered, only 3.22% are persons living with various forms of disabilities.

A further breakdown showed that 1,499,042 were males while 1,532,023 were females.

Katsina had the highest number of vulnerable households with a nominal value of 113,268 households and 507,160 individuals.

“The NSR has state coordinating offices set up in all but one state with a memorandum of understanding signed with 36 states and the FCT.

The report states that NASSCO will formally inform social intervention stakeholders on the data availability of Poor, Vulnerable households for mining.

  1. thanks to the FG for there intervention on the less previlege on nigeria, i want to let you know that some of this benefit are not given to those that relly need it but those even earning money as salary will be the first to register their self, i pray God will have is way, and i suggest that the FG should please help every body generally or make it by seen and take thanks.

  2. Pls when will this program commence in Ogun & Lagos States? How do we register on National Social Register (NSR) in either of the state?
