The ministry of youth and sports development says 2,000 Nigerian youths have graduated from a seven-week long digital skills training.
The training programme, tagged ‘Economic Sustainability Plan for Youth’, was wrapped up in Lagos on Friday.
In a statement shared with TheCable, the ministry said beneficiaries of the programme “were selected through a process across the six geo-political zones and went through training in digital skills such as graphics and animation, internet of things, robotics, software development, coding and business process outsourcing”.
According to the ministry, “1,600 youth were trained through Digital Youth Nigeria (DY.ng), 280 went through capacity building in renewable energy and smart agriculture while 2,550 have been placed in organisations as paid interns for three months under the Work Experience Programme (WEP)”.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the programme, Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, said the graduates will be monitored to ensure they maximise the skills learnt at training.
“Officials of the ministry will monitor the progress of graduates periodically to provide guidance and ensure compliance, in line with the objective of the programme, ” he said.
“I therefore urge beneficiaries to take advantage of credit opportunities available to young people by accessing the National Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) to strengthen their businesses.”
