Fidelity Bank Plc has offered employment to Micheal Sowunmi, a graduate of chemical engineering, who is regarded as “the world’s greatest mathematics teacher”.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ejike Ndiulo, the company’s head of corporate communications, said Sowunmi was rewarded for his passion for teaching and imparting knowledge.
He said Sowunmi will now serve as a facilitator at Crest, the bank’s training academy.
Ndiulo quoted Nnamdi Okonkwo, the bank’s chief executive officer, as saying the decision is in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy “aimed specifically at uplifting the less privileged members of society.”

“Sowunmi’s case is not an isolated one we have indeed demonstrated our passion for lifting people several ways as you have seen tonight with the case of Tim Godfrey and DJ Slim V and the Fidelity Youth Empowerment Academy,” he said.
“Today, we have given them a platform this big to perform and showcase their craft to the admiration of all. We urge you to patronize them so they can grow. These energies they are displaying could have been channeled to negative vices.”
In his remark, Ernest Ebi, chairman of the company’s board of directors, said the bank has changed the lives of several youths through its Youth Empowerment Academy (YEA).

He said over 2,000 students have benefited from the academy, adding that the programme seeks to empower Nigerian undergraduates with vocational skills and enterprise training which are relevant for self-reliance.
“Fidelity Bank is making the youths turn their passion into a pay cheque through empowerment programmes which includes vocational training in fashion, make-up, coding, catering and more,” he said.
