FIFA has abandoned me, says Blatter

Embattled FIFA president Sepp Blatter will no longer fight for FIFA as he had earlier stated on December 21 after his ban from everything football.

The 79-year-old said that FIFA has abandoned him since the ban and for that reason, he will only fight for himself and for none other.

He was handed an eight-year ban from all football related matters by the ethics committee of FIFA after he was found culpable in an undocumented ‘disloyal payment’ of $2million to UEFA President, Michel Platini.

Blatter, who has appealed his case at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), expressed his sadness at being abandoned by the federation he presided over for 17 years.

“I now no longer fight for Fifa,” Blatter said

“They abandoned me. I am now only fighting for myself and my honour.”

Platini, 60, was also banned from the running and administration of the game for eight years and will no longer be the UEFA president with the ban in place.

The Swiss and Platini are the biggest personalities to be indicted in the wave of a US-led investigation over allegations of bribery and payments collected by FIFA executive committee members and heads of football federations for the sale of TV rights for FIFA sanctioned competitions.
