FIFA rankings: Nigeria drops a spot on the globe, remains 3rd in Africa

Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped a spot down from 33 to 34 in FIFA/Coca-Cola world latest rankings.

According to the list released on Thursday by the world football body, the Super Eagles also maintained its 3rd position in the continent.

The Gernot Rohr-inspired team moved from its August points of 1481 to 1482 in September.

In July, the Nigerian national team won the bronze medal at the 32nd edition of the AFCON. They also played a 2-2 draw with Ukraine in an International friendly match in Dnipro on September 10.

African champions Algeria moved 2 spots up from 40 to 38 in the world but remained 4th in Africa.

Runners up, Senegal maintained their 20th spot — their best ever FIFA ranking — and 1st position in the continent.

AFCON host nation Egypt also retained their 49th position in the world but took 6th place in the continent.

Belgium remained top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola world ranking after an action-packed number of weeks in international football, which saw 78 friendlies, 74 continental qualifiers and 60 qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 played across the globe.

France moved up from 3rd to 2nd spot to unseat Copa America’s winners, Brazil.

Ten top ranked nations: Belgium (1), France (2), Brazil (3), England (4), Portugal (5), Uruguay (6), Spain (7), Colombia (8), Croatia (9), Argentina (10th)

The next FIFA world rankings will be published on October 24, 2019.
