Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, has announced the expansion of the men’s Club World Cup from seven to 32 teams as from 2025.
The FIFA president spoke during a briefing in Doha, Qatar, on Friday.
Club World Cup is an annual tournament competed by clubs that are champions of the six FIFA confederations and the league winner of the host country.
Infantino said the competition will become a quadrennial tournament that will have the “best teams in the world” participating.

“It will be a Club World Cup of 32 teams, every four years, and the first edition will be summer of 2025. They will be the best teams in the world invited to participate,” he said.
Infantino said the details for allocations are yet to be discussed and agreed upon.
The next edition of the competition will hold in Morocco from February 1-11, 2023.

The teams expected to participate are Real Madrid, Flamengo, Seattle Sounders, Auckland City & Wydad Casablanca, with two other teams yet to join.
The FIFA president also announced the launch of the Women’s Club World Cup and the Women’s Futsal World Cup.
