Flamingoes seal place in final round of U17 World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria has made it through to the final round of the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the expense of Ethiopia.

The game ended 0-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo state.

The Flamingoes qualified courtesy of the away goal rule. The team had played a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia in the first leg in Addis Ababa.

On Saturday, neither side was able to get on the scoresheet.

The visitors almost shocked the hosts through Zergaw Atekit’s effort, but Flamingoes skipper Christy Obia did well to tip the ball over the bar.

Nigeria came close to scoring courtesy of efforts by Oghenebrume Ikekhua, Abibat Abdulgodir, Yetunde Fajobi and Joy Jerry, but it never quite happened.

The Flamingoes will play the winner of the Cameroon-Algeria fixture in the final round of the qualifying series.
