Fintiri gets challenger as APC picks Jibrilla

The top two contenders for the governorship of Adamawa state have emerged, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) picking Senator Bindo Jibralla as its candidate on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) picked the acting governor, Hon. Umaru Fintiri, as its candidate after the primary in which he defeated four other aspirants.

On Sunday, Jibrilla (pictured), who represents Adamawa north in the senate, defeated his rival to pick APC’s ticket.

He polled 2,718 votes, narrowly beating Ibrahim Mijinyawa, who got 2,268 votes.

Boss Mustapha, reportedly backed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, came third with 515 votes.

In a statement on Monday, Atiku said: ““As a democrat, I accept the outcome and ask all party members in the state to do the same. As members of a truly democratic party, the outcome of the election is binding on all party members and we must all work to pull our support behind the flag-bearer of our great party during the governorship election.”

The governorship election will hold on October 11 to replace Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako, who was impeached in July.
