There are, however, claims that the fire was caused by some aggrieved youths protesting the alleged death of one of them during a clash between officials of the FCT task force and some traders in the market.

Police officers are reported to have barricaded the entrance of the market to prevent people from entering.

There has been no official statement about the fire outbreak from the Abuja Market Management Limited.
