Fire guts police divisional office in Kano

The police command in Kano state says the divisional police office in Nasarawa LGA has been gutted by fire.

Hussaini Gumel, state commissioner of police, told NAN that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.

“At about 5.45am, the divisional police headquarters was engulfed by fire and a major part of the building was burned down completely,” he said.

“This is in spite of prompt response by the state fire service.”

Gumel said investigation was ongoing to unravel the cause of the fire.

“The area has been cordoned off to prevent intrusion by onlookers and miscreants. The arms and ammunition in the office are very safe,” he said.

“The Divisional Police Officer is currently sorting out some of the affected documents.”

In January 2023, the Kano state police command headquarters in Bompai area of the state was engulfed by fire.

The fire reportedly started from the provost’s office and spread to the finance department.

Other areas reportedly affected included the conference room, office of the police public relations officer, office of the assistant commissioner (administration), office of the deputy commissioner (administration), among others.

All the offices at the top floor of the building were engulfed by the fire, except that of the commissioner.
