Fire guts warehouse in Lagos market

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says a fire outbreak has affected a warehouse at Ladipo, Odo Mushin area of the state.

A statement on Tuesday by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of LASEMA, said there was no loss of lives nor injuries recorded during to the incident. 

He said investigations revealed that the immediate cause of the fire was attributed to power surge after public electricity supply was restored to the area. 

“Following distress calls received via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 00:09 hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans and its Emergency Response Team from the Cappa Base,” the statement reads.

“Upon arrival of the Eagle response team at 0016 hrs to the incident scene, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team discovered a warehouse surrounded by shops gutted by fire at the aforementioned location. 

“A comprehensive damage assessment shows that valuable goods worth a fortune were destroyed by the inferno. 

“The inferno affected the electronics section, generator section, bicycle section, auto spare parts section, furniture section, phones section, home appliances section, powerbike section.

“The LASEMA’s team sensitized occupants of the warehouse on the need for urgent implementation of identified appropriate safety measures to prevent a recurrence in the future.”
