At least seven students have been confirmed dead, while 25 injured, following a fire outbreak at Government Girls Secondary School in Kano.
The fire accident which occurred on Sunday night in Jogana, Gezawa local government area of the state, reportedly led to a stampede that resulted in the death of the students.
Confirming the incident, Hafiz Abubakar, deputy governor of the state, said he has visited the scene of the inferno and the hospitals where the victims were receiving treatment.
He went on to condole with families of the victims, emphasising that the government was ready to foot the medical bills of all affected students.

Abubakar also ordered an immediate closure of the school, while those involved would recover from the pain and trauma of the tragic incident.
He also set up a technical committee to identify the cause of the fire and map out strategies for renovation of the hostel.
It took fire fighters, a number of hours to eventually put out the inferno.
