President Bola Tinubu will preside over his first council of state meeting today (Tuesday).

The meeting usually takes place in the executive council chamber of the presidential villa.

A sitting president chairs the meeting, with the vice-president as deputy chair.

The council of state is an organ of the federal government saddled with the responsibility of advising the executive on policy making.

Members of the council are former presidents or heads of state, former chief justices of Nigeria, president of the senate, speaker of the house of representatives, governors, and attorney-general of the federation (AGF).

The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, which would be held at noon, is expected to revolve around pressing national issues like food security, national security, and economic policies.

The meeting comes just days after youths took to streets across the country to protest Nigeria’s worst cost of living crisis in decades.

Food inflation has ballooned across Nigeria since Tinubu assumed the reins in 2023.
