Oshoala excited to score first Liverpool goal on debut

Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, has expressed is elated after getting her first goal for Liverpool Ladies in their 4-1 friendly victory over Aston Villa Ladies on Sunday.

The reigning Africa female player of the year, who recently signed a five-year contract with English FA Women Super League side champions, wasted no time in settling down in her new environment.

Oshoala scored the second goal of the rout in the 12th minute when she finished off a perfect team move and who would blame her for speaking about it on her Twitter handle?

“Great win and team work today (Sunday), 4-1 victory over Aston Villa Ladies. I thank Allah for giving me a goal,” she said.

Meanwhile, her former coach in the Super Falcons, Eucharia Uche, expects Oshoala’s move abroad to “improve and strengthen the domestic league as well as the national team”.

“It’s a highly welcome development, the successful switch to the English women side, Liverpool Ladies by Asisat Oshoala,” Uche said 

“Her breakthrough is expected to improve and strengthen the domestic league as well as the national team. It’s a good omen to the side’s campaign at the forthcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada later in the year.

“The exploits of the likes of Pepertua Nkwocha, Francisca Ordega, Desire Oparanozie, Onome Ebi, among others in the various European leagues have been a blessing to the senior national team.

“Oshoala is expected to come back to the national team a more improved player as her exploits are most likely to open doors to her colleague in the local scene,” the former Nigerian striker, said.

Oshoala will be part of the Falcons team to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, in June.

Nigeria are in Group D with USA, Sweden and Australia.
