Five die in road accident on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

No fewer than five people have reportedly died in a lone accident involving a Mercedes Benz jeep at Fatgbems bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

A statement on Monday by Omolola Odutola, police spokesperson in Ogun, said that the accident, which occurred at about 11:30 pm on Sunday, was caused by reckless driving on the part of the driver.

“The accident occurred when the driver of the Mercedes Benz, going towards Mowe direction, suddenly lost control, hit the culvert, somersaulted and turned to the opposite direction,” the police spokesperson said.

“As a result, three male and two female adults inside the SUV were confirmed dead, and one passenger sustained injuries.

“The roof of the vehicle was completely torn off and the vehicle was extensively damaged. Traffic police promptly arrived at the scene.”

The police spokesperson said the injured victim was taken to AZ Carezone Hospital, while the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Real Divine Hospital, Ibafo.

Odutola added that family members of the victims had been notified and urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.
