Five kidnap victims rescued as police kill ‘terrorist’ in Katsina

The Katsina police command says five women were rescued by its operatives during an attack by suspected terrorists on Bajinawa village in Dutsinma LGA of the state.

In a statement on Monday, Gambo Isah, police spokesperson in the state, said the terrorists invaded the village on Sunday.

Isah said the police stormed the area after a distress call that terrorists on many motorcycles have invaded the village.

He said the operatives engaged the terrorists in a gun battle and dislodged many of them in the process.

“On 14/05/2023 at about 2200hrs, a distress call was received that terrorists-bandits, on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked Bajinawa village, Dutsinma LGA and kidnapped five women,” the statement reads.

“Area commander, Dutsinma, led a team of policemen to Tashar Icce, a suspected route/black spot, engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them. In the course of scanning the scene, one member of the terrorists’ gang was neutralized.

“The team also recovered one AK 47 rifle and rescued all the kidnap victims. Many terrorists are reasonably believed to have escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.

“Search parties are still combing the area with a view of arresting the injured and/or neutralized bandits.”

The police spokesperson urged members of the affected communities to report any suspected person with gunshot injuries to the command for investigation.
