The Super Eagles head into their international friendly match against Serbia in a good position after a 1-0 victory over Poland on Friday
Here are five reasons why the players, if at their best, should beat the Serbs at the Hive Stadium on Tuesday.
Counter-attacking edge
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr may have finally cracked it.
Ater two failed attempts to qualify for the African Cup of Nations, in 2016, Nigeria’s Super Eagles acquired a spectacular counter-attacking style; a patient, short passing, possession-based play.

This, combined with a high-pressing game by the attackers, has blossomed into Nigeria’s de facto style under the watchful eyes of Rohr.
The 1-0 victory against Poland is the best example of the new defensive/offensive efficiency of the team. The players were able to control proceedings and win a close, cagey encounter.
Striking options
Odion Jude Ighalo, Junior Ajayi and Gabriel Okechukwu are not the most dazzling of players, but they get the job done.

Changchun Yatai forward, Ighalo, is deadly from 18 yards out and will cherish one or two chances against Serbia.
Like Ighalo, Ajayi can read the game superbly, and often finds himself in the right attacking positions to finish off chances.
Okechukwu is the most direct of the trio, and constantly runs at defenders. He will provide the much-needed boost as a second half substitute — to beat tired defenders to the ball.
Chemistry
There’s great synergy in the team, on the pitch and away from it. This Nigerian team features a bunch of well-rounded individuals, and this has been a key difference in games.

From the goalkeeper to the strikers, everyone is comfortable on the ball and can pass it well.
The team defends and attacks as a unit, which makes the Eagles a very balanced team.
Team spirit
What has worked for Rohr since he took over as coach is his ability to unite the dressing room and spark oneness in the team, something that was lacking in the past.
